How to Write a Descriptive Essay
A descriptive essay is a subjective task that demands proficient and deep understanding of the topic you are to write about. It can be creative, personal or artistic. A descriptive essay, unlike other types of essays, strives to create a deep and involving experience for the reader and achieves this through the use of detailed observations and descriptions, but does not rely much on the facts and statistics.
There are several features to consider, when writing such essay. They help in understanding vital areas of consideration and in organizing the essay. Besides, they help the author know when to move from one scene to another to rhyme the author and the readers’ mind.
A descriptive essay can either be an ordinary or an extraordinary subject, but should be made interesting enough through emphasizing on what makes the subject interesting, new or unusual. A descriptive essay should focus on a specific topic that would enable the reader understand, rather than mix different topics.
The other feature, possessed by a descriptive essay, is subject treatment. The subject or a topic being described should rhyme to how the reader will answer to it. When describing a person, for example, the author should describe him or her in a way the reader will fully understand and have the person being described in mind and get exact way the author intended to.
In a descriptive essay, there should be a strict organization. The essay should move from a general introduction to a specific subject and end with a clear thesis sentence. The essay should end with clear conclusion and should always restate the thesis to conclude the subject matter.
